Crowd Theory (“we,” “us”) is a daily guessing game available on iOS, Android, and the web at crowdtheory.app. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run a crowd game, your answers appear only inside anonymous crowd totals, and we don’t sell your data.
Account basics. When you first open the app, we create an anonymous account with a random identifier — no email, name, or sign-up required. You can choose a username and avatar, which are shown publicly on leaderboards and in the Forum.
Gameplay. Your daily answers, predictions, scores, streaks, and results. Your individual answers and predictions are never displayed to other users — only your username, avatar, scores, and standings appear publicly.
Optional demographics. You may choose to share your birth year and gender to unlock crowd breakdowns (for example, how different generations answered). These power aggregate statistics only, are never shown at the individual level, and any demographic group with fewer than roughly 100 respondents is hidden entirely.
Content you post. Comments in the Forum, likes, reports, and question suggestions. Comments are public and moderated.
Technical data. Basic device and usage information needed to operate the service (such as device type, app version, timezone, and crash and performance data), and — if you enable notifications — a push token.
We use a small number of service providers to operate Crowd Theory: Supabase (database and authentication hosting), Expo (app builds and updates), Vercel (website hosting), and Apple/Google (app distribution and, if enabled, push notification delivery). These providers process data on our behalf under their own security commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users and the service. If Crowd Theory is ever acquired or merged, data may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: You tab → Delete my account. Deletion permanently removes your profile, comments, streaks, demographics, and results. Your past answers remain only as part of anonymous crowd totals (so historical results don’t change), with nothing linking them to you. You can also request deletion by emailing us at the address below.
Crowd Theory is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information. The in-app deletion tool covers most of this instantly; for anything else, email us and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Data is encrypted in transit, stored with a reputable cloud provider, and protected by access controls (including database-level rules that prevent users from reading or modifying each other’s private data). No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll update the date above and note the change in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
